When one thinks about celebrity homes, visions of luxury and privacy come to mind, along with a vista that totally makes the jaw drop. But sometimes behind those gates and ornate doors lie some very unwanted and ghostly roommates. Not even celebrities are immune to the possibility of paranormal activity, and the tales they can tell are as thrilling as they are spooky. Let’s dive into some of the eeriest haunted house tales from the stars.

Bella Thorne: The Cursed Graveyard

Bella Thorne had equal shares of paranormal scares. Her family once lived in an old Native American burial ground; the experience was less than peaceful. Bella described hearing the eerie sounds of chains and shackles rattling at night-definitely not something you’d expect from a normal old house. Things got so intense that her family eventually moved out. Bella said that it happened every night and that there was just no rational explanation for it. The haunting wasn’t just about the rattling of chains. Bella also recalled how objects would move around by themselves, such as picture frames falling off walls and chairs found in places where nobody had placed them. She even saw, one night, the figure standing at her bed foot. It was these continuous eerie encounters that finally made her family take a decision to vacate the house. It was a relief to move, and much later Bella would say she never felt anything quite like it again, but memories of that haunted house still give her chills.

Kendall Jenner: Treading into Kris Jenner’s House

Kendall Jenner has led everyone to believe that her mom Kris Jenner’s house is haunted. Kendall, in a video for Vogue, revealed that she and her sister Kylie would hear footsteps on the roof when nobody else was home. Even creepier, Kylie’s shower would turn on of its own accord.

Such strange happenings convinced Kendall that something supernatural was going on; she just couldn’t find a logical explanation for the noise. Kendall later added that the disturbing experiences were not solely restricted to the roof or the shower. At times there was that feeling of some presence, particularly when she was alone in the house. The atmosphere would turn heavy in an instant, and she often used to hear muted whispers that seemed to come from nowhere.

Despite feeling scared, Kendall said she had grown accustomed to the strange happenings with time as she learned how to coexist with whatever it was that caused them. She said it almost became a part of her daily life, although she did add that whenever anyone else was around, she was relieved.

Adele: Sussex Mansion Haunted

Even music icons like Adele aren’t safe from ghostly visitors. The singer once rented an $11 million mansion in Sussex, England, and said she was more than a little creeped out. She said of the house, “It gave me serious chills, and I was so unnerved that I hired a bodyguard to stay with me at night.” After two years, she’d had enough and made her mind up to leave. It would appear even a beautiful mansion isn’t worth the constant feeling of being watched.

For Adele, it was more than just a feeling of unease while in the mansion in Sussex. These would include strange noises in the middle of the night, like footsteps trodding down empty hallways and creaking open doors on their own. She even went so far as to say cold spots were throughout the house, places where the temperature would just drop for no reason whatsoever. The final straw came when she heard what sounded like a muffled voice calling her name while she was alone. The feeling of dread got too much, and Adele decided that her peace of mind was more important than staying in the luxurious property.

Jennifer Aniston: Cursed Los Angeles Apartment

When Jennifer Aniston first moved to Los Angeles, she ended up renting an apartment with a ghost who seemed to have a problem with her roommate. On Late Late Show with James Corden, Aniston said the dishwasher would turn on by itself, along with the coffee maker and stereo-“at, like, 3 am blasting.” Terrified, she finally called someone in to “clear the house” through frankincense and rituals. During the cleansing, a dish and then an ashtray cracked, and the expert said the spirit didn’t like her roommate. She eventually moved out, never telling her roommate what the true reason was.

She also added that most of the time, she would feel some unexplained chill every time she entered a room, especially in the kitchen and living room.

There were times when she had the feeling she was being watched, and she’d get fleeting impressions of her-what she described as a shadow-moving quickly out of the corner of her eye. These experiences led her to feel as though she couldn’t enjoy being in her own home, and even though she never told her roommate the real reason for her moving out, Jennifer knew she just couldn’t stay in a place that felt so deeply unsettling.

Britney Spears: Spirits in the Hollywood Hills

Britney Spears also had a brush with the supernatural before selling her Hollywood Hills home to Brittany Murphy and her husband. Murphy died in the house in 2009, and her husband followed in 2010. However, in an appearance on the We Need to Talk About Britney podcast, Britney’s onetime makeup artist Julianne Kaye mentioned that Britney had once felt the home contained a spiritual portal, opened when a reiki session went bad. In fact, according to Kaye, Britney felt “bad spirits” pushing her down the stairs on a regular basis. It got to the point where Britney moved into a hotel and refused to go back. The house always did sound a bit “off” to Brittany Murphy-virtual she herself had never experienced anything firsthand.

The supernatural experiences that Britney had were not only the feeling of being pushed. When in bed at night, she hears strange, weird voices, while lights flicker without an apparent explanation.

Time went by, and the air became heavier and heavier in the house. Each morning she woke up drained, anxious-in fact, fearful that something was purposefully trying to deplete her energy. Finally, her resolve hardened: she could no longer stand the unrelenting fear and resolved to leave the house for good, wanting instead the safety and comfort of a hotel.

Jenna Bush-Hager: White House Ghostly Music

Even the White House has ghost stories to tell, with Jenna Bush-Hager, the daughter of former president George W. Bush, once recounting how she had been attempting to sleep and heard 1920s music emanating from her fireplace. She freaked out and ran to her sister’s room, but her sister just brushed it off. It just goes to show that one of the most secure residences in the world isn’t immune to a little ghostly visit.

Jenna would say later it wasn’t just the music that bothered her. Tequila-fueled, or not, some nights there was soft laughter and whispers down the halls, like some party from generations past was still going on in the White House walls.

Even with the security level being ultra-high and always someone around, the sounds seemed to come out of nowhere, providing Jenna with the feeling that she was not alone. The whole experience gave her a different view on the long and storied history of the presidential residence.

Nicolas Cage: The Curse of LaLaurie House

Nicholas Cage reportedly bought the infamous LaLaurie Mansion in New Orleans, which is easily considered one of the most haunted sights in the city. The mansion has a pretty ghastly history behind it, attributed to the horrid treatment of slaves by the previous owner, Madame Delphine LaLaurie. The ghostly energy in the house was said to be so strong that Cage started to have a run of really bad luck since buying it. Some even claim that the hauntings and the cursed fate of the house made the contribution to his later financial problems. Maybe starting with the general feeling of unease.

Nicolas Cage said that shortly after moving in, he began having very intense nightmares about the dark history of the mansion. He said he would wake up in cold sweats from time to time, as if he just lived through trauma himself. He also mentioned that strange things would happen, items would disappear and show up in other places, and lights would turn on and off by themselves. Eventually, it was just these types of events added to his increasing financial issues that he sold the mansion because he felt all this negativity was seeping into all parts of his life.
